Meet Wanda Casey

The books in the Diaries of Wanda Casey series are centered around the character of Wanda and her quest to find an identity through sexual liberation. Like many women today, she finds herself a “grown up” but seemingly without a clear path to her destiny. The writing aside, which is at times graphic as well as amusing, Wanda discovers who she is, who she isn’t, and how she can become fulfilled.

Most women her age, she believes, are married and have children. This is the first roadblock that appears. Why not she? What was missing in her life or herself that prevented that from just becoming? Not that it was necessarily anything she wanted, but stemming mostly from societal pressures that constantly tell us what is “normal” and what is “abnormal.”

Her public perception as a beautiful, vibrant and capable woman in the working world also comes along with certain traps, office politics and male-dominance.

The major block, however, is realized when she becomes the surrogate for her lover’s wife, which is displayed in their similar looks, backgrounds, and carnal appetites. Wanda is, essentially, a younger version of her, so then are all women the same then, at least to men? Are they always looking to trade up?

In the first installment, Mrs. John Heat, we meet Wanda for the first time as she loses control one night and does something she never did before, taking not one, not two, but three men home from work. While she feels no apparent shame, her life would never be the same afterwards, prompting her to take chance after chance with multiple lovers, with little regard for anyone’s feelings or the impact it might have on herself.

In the second book, Savage Loving, Wanda puts her foot on the gas even more and winds up with her heart hanging by a string — attached to her lover’s body — and all that he is and fails to be. Ultimately, some secrets are revealed, causing perceptions and alliances to change suddenly, even violently.

In the forthcoming third book, Delicate Tornado, Wanda achieves some level of equilibrium, although not without a price. Here we see our protagonist break free from some of the fetters that kept her bound and emerge from her cocoon a changed woman.
